Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.

The Essence of the Gospel: Life-Changing Good News
The gospel has three main elements that transform lives.
First, the death of Christ for our sins. As Romans 3:23 says: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” The reality of sin must be acknowledged by anyone approaching the throne of God for salvation. We also need to understand that “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). How have you come to realize that you are a sinner? Why is recognizing our sin essential to understanding the gospel message?
Second, the person and work of Christ are indispensable. Jesus is both God (Colossians 2:9) and man (John 1:14). He lived a sinless life (1 Peter 2:22), and because of that, He could redeem us through His death. Sin against an infinite God requires an infinite sacrifice. Jesus went to the cross, paid our debt to God, and opens the way to the Kingdom of God (John 1:12). Why is it necessary for Jesus to be fully God, fully man, and sinless to provide an infinite sacrifice for sin?
Third, the resurrection of Christ is the foundation of the gospel. The resurrection proves the power of God: only He can restore life after death and remove the sting of death (1 Corinthians 15:54–55). Christianity alone has a Founder who has conquered death and promises the same to His followers. How does the resurrection of Christ give you confidence in His power over death and the promise of eternal life?
Finally, salvation is a gift from God (Romans 5:15; 6:23), received only by faith, apart from any works (Ephesians 2:8–9). As Paul says, the gospel is “the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile” (Romans 1:16). Faith is a gift—no one can boast in their own efforts (Romans 3:27). What does it look like to faithfully respond to God, while recognizing that salvation is entirely a gift from Him?
In short, the gospel is:
Christ’s death for our sins;
His resurrection, giving life;
Salvation as a free gift, received only by faith.
What hope do you now have as a result of believing the gospel and trusting in Christ for the forgiveness of sins? If you have not yet received this message, consider your relationship with God and read about salvation. If you are saved, rejoice and remember the day of your salvation (Psalm 51:12).
